Hino South Africa, which has just celebrated the first year on the local market for its latest 700 Series extra heavy-duty trucks, is now offering buyers in certain market segments the opportunity to take delivery of new trucks already prepared for the tasks ahead.

“There are certain, well-defined segments in the local extra heavy market, and we are now ready to use out Post Production Operations (PPO) unit to oversee fitment of the special equipment needed to adapt the trucks for specific applications,” explained Itumeleng Segage, Hino SA General Manager.

Side tippers are one of the applications where Hino SA will arrange and oversee the fitment of the requisite power take off by ZF and the subsequent installation of the required hydraulic piping and fluid tank.

Hino 700 trucks that are used as fuel or Hazchem tankers also have the necessary hydraulic pump fitted to the chassis together with the required piping before delivery to the customer who must then get the Hazchem compliance kit fitted as required by the regulations.

“Originally, we targeted the Hino 700 at regional haul operators, but due to its cost effectiveness and good fuel economy, without the need for AdBlue, we are finding more long haul operators buying our trucks. However, one shortfall for this type of operation is that the 700 has a single sleeper cab, whereas many operators use two drivers on these longer, overnight routes,” said Segage.

“We have now a local developed sleeper pod that fits on the roof of the cab and is incorporated into the aero kit. It provides spacious sleeping accommodation for a second driver, with lights and two windows. This is a concept used in Japan and we have had positive feedback from operators already trialling our sleeper pod in South Africa.”

Among the other options available through Hino SA’s PPO unit is the fitment of aluminium alloy rims and aero kits that further improve fuel economy.

“What is important is that these PPO fitments are in line with the Hino truck warranty for the operators’ peace of mind,” added the Hino General Manager.
